My obsession to brunch dated back to the days when I watched Sex and the City: putting on a cute outfit, meeting girlfriends on a lazy Sunday afternoon, chatting at a table full of food: bacon, eggs, bread, shrimp, pasta, pancakes, pudding…… and cocktail! I call it occasion of the three F: Friends, Food & Fashion.
I caught up with Simona, one of my favorite girls, who is also a big fan of Sex and the City, in Florence on a lazy Sunday afternoon. We’ve both heard enough good reviews of the brunch in Florian, and that’s where we went! The original Florian is in Venice, which bears lots of history: the oldest coffee house, the first meeting place that admitted women, etc. The brunch in Florence, located in Via di Parione, carries on the historical venetian coffeehouse vibe, going into the restaurant was like entering an ancient cafe/ tearoom. The traditional style interior, and the countless home-made pastries and sweets displayed on shelves made the Florian cozy and chic. All of these past and present facts made Florian a perfect place to fulfill appetite and some gossips between girls!
The concept of the brunch in Florian is similar to La Menagere: with €35 you have 1) buffet table for appetizers, first dishes, and desserts; 2) second dish ordered from the menu; 3) beverages are included.
What need to be mentioned is their signature Bloody Mary. I am not at all a fan of Bloody Mary, and honestly I even skipped it this time, but it is interesting to know that Florian makes Your Preferred Version of Bloody Mary: Simona asked for a “spicier” version, and I thought about a virgin, aka non-alcohol version, but still dropped the idea at the end. Tomato for drink? Not for me! 😛
Making that special bloody mary
A perfect brunch must contain a wide selection of dessert! I am very careful about my sugar intake during daily life, but I am absolutely willing to make an exception for these bad boys!!!
My version of brunch calls for the pancake! I even went two rounds for them: once together with the other appetizers (I know, don’t judge me!~), and the second time as real dessert.
Address: Via di Parione, 32/red, 50123 Firenze
